Crystal Palace have reportedly appointed former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew as their new manager.

Although not officially confirmed by the club, reports claim Pardew's contract with the Eagles was signed on Friday evening after the two clubs allegedly agreed a compensation fee of around £3.5m.

Palace had said earlier in the day they were confident that Pardew would be at the helm for Sunday's FA Cup third round tie at Conference side Dover.

The 53-year-old replaces Neil Warnock, who was sacked last Saturday four months into his second spell in charge.

Pardew returns to his first professional club and will allegedly have full control over transfers at Selhurst Park after allegedly clashing with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley principally over their January plans.

Pardew leaves the Magpies sitting 10th in the Premier League after supporters on Tyneside called for him to be sacked earlier this season when Newcastle were in the bottom three.
