    Melbourne Victory moved up to second place in the Australian A-League following a 1-0 home win over Newcastle Jets on Saturday (27 December).

    Third-placed Melbourne Victory took on Newcastle Jets in the A-League on Saturday looking to stay in touch with leaders Perth Glory.

    While the Newcastle Jets - second bottom - were looking for just their second win of the season.

    Chances were in short supply as the game entered the 56th minute.

    Fahid Ben Khalfallah smashing the crossbar as the home side went in search of the opener.

    The Jets came into the game with less than 10 minutes remaining, although Andrew Hoole's shot never truly troubled.

    Then, Victory were presented with a glorious chance to take the lead.

    Brazilian, Guilherme took it.

    The 29-year-old's goal proving the difference as the 1-0 win, sent Melbourne Victory into second & four points off Perth Glory.
