Delph & Vlaar could leave - Lambert

  • Intro:

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert on Tuesday (23rd December) looked ahead to his team's Boxing Day (26th December) trip to Swansea City in the English Premier League, and said he didn't "visualise" Ron Vlaar and Fabien Delph leaving Villa Park in the January transfer window.

Paul Lambert, Aston Villa manager (on prospect of players leaving in January transfer window):
"Yeah, Fabien (Delph, midfielder) and Ron (Vlaar, central defender) have been well-documented the two of them. But as I said the other day... I don't want the lads to go anywhere in January. We'd like to see them see it through. Whatever's going to happen in the summer will happen. You'd love them to stay at the club but when you're in the Bosman ruling everybody knows you hold the ace card as a footballer. And it's difficult in that situation - but I don't visualise anybody leaving in January."

Paul Lambert, Aston Villa manager (on form and confidence heading into the Christmas fixtures):
"As I said, I think we're going into the games feeling that way (confident). I think the confidence is there and we're looking good at the minute. If we can get one or two back from injury that's important as well. We've still got a few injuries there but we just need to get those lads out of that treatment room and get them on the pitch."

Paul Lambert, Aston Villa manager (on the Swansea City match on Boxing Day):"Tough game, they're a good side Swansea, especially down at their own ground. But it's a game we're looking forward to. It's always a good atmosphere there and it's a good pitch to play football on. So, as I said, we're going down with a lot of confidence at the minute, so we'll go... but we also know it's a difficult game."
