Intro:
An Argentinian town has immortalised its love of football by baptising its streets with the names of the country's national team players.
Script:
SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Carlos Salazar, Community Leader, El Chanar:
"Really the names of the streets were missing so here we were working with the other guys from the local authority, it was just when the furore of the World Cup was still felt, it was in early August, the tournament had finished about a month before. Then in late August and early September the names were placed. And with the local youth in mind we decided to put the names of the national team players (Argentine football team that were runners up in Brazil 2014)."SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Cintia Inigo, local resident:
"I live on Demichelis and Mascherano. Well, we have had many experiences, for instance when you go to pay the bills and they ask you the address and they begin to laugh when you tell them. They don't believe us, sometimes they don't believe us. The streets are named like that."SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Carlos Salazar, Community Leader, El Chanar:
"We decided to put the names of all the main players from the team but then some people, mainly the women came to call on me: why don't you put Pocho (Ezequiel) Lavezzi (Argentina and now Paris Saint-Germain forward)? First I took it as a kind of joke, with humour, but more and more pressure built up, lots of pressure, calling on Pocho, Pocho. So to appease the women we are now inaugurating a little Plaza, to be called Pocho Lavezzi."
