Gamba Osaka have been crowned J.League champions in a dramatic finale to the 2014 season on Saturday.

    Script:

The race for the J-League championship came down to the final round as top side Gamba Osaka met bottom side Tokushima Vortis, and second placed Urawa Reds hosted Nagoya Grampus.

Gamba were the overwhelming favourites as Vortis, who were already relegated, had not won a league game at home all season.

But the first half ended goalless as the league leaders failed to make the breakthrough.

The second ended the same way.

Gamba's title hopes hung in the balance as the Reds faced off Grampus.

And it looked like the trophy was heading for Urawa as they went ahead two minutes after kick-off.

But the visitors pulled one back in the 72nd minute from a corner.

With the fans urging the Reds to press on, the hosts pumped more players up front in search of a winner and the J.League title.

It left big gaps in their defence and Grampus capitalised a minute before the final whistle to claim a 2-1 win.

The result meant a draw was enough for Gamba Osaka to take home the championship.

    It's their second J-League title.

The Reds have to settle for second.
