Martinez bemoans penalty call

Sunday, December 07 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes the penalty awarded to Manchester City, that ultimately decided the result of the encounter between the sides, should not have been given.

    Script:

    SOUNDBITE: Roberto Martinez, Everton manager

"I'm really disappointed with that action (by the referee in awarding the penalty) because it is clear contact. That's something the game.... contact is allowed and I don't think it's a penalty at all. It will be interesting to see what Manuel Pellegrini thinks about it, because it is a ball that is played into the 18-yard box that the defender is allowed to go and challenge as you would expect. He (Phil Jagielka) gets into a situation which James Milner stretches himself to reach the ball that changes the direction of that room. Phil Jagielka carries on with his run. He can't disappear, so there's going to be a coming together between the two bodies. Nothing below the waste. Everything is just hip and shoulder and James Milner's reaction tells you everything. He just gets up immediately, tries to fight for the ball and he's not even asking for a free kick."
