Bundesliga clubs have approved goal-line technology.

It will be implemented into the league at the start of the next season.

The technology chosen is the Hawk-Eye system, which is also used by England's Premier League.

The system was introduced in England in the 2013/2014 season, and it's largely been a success.

German football league president Reinhard Rauball said 15 of the 18 Bundesliga clubs voted for the new technology, meeting the two-thirds majority requirement.

SOUNDBITE (German) Reinhard Rauball, German football league president:

"With regard to the goal-line technology, the assembly of the league association, means the Bundesliga teams, has decided for an introduction, namely with a result of 15:3 votes and of course no abstention. We had 18 votes and all Bundesliga teams were present."

SOUNDBITE (German) Reinhard Rauball, German football league president:

"With the installation of the system in the upcoming three years and starting from 1st July 2015, the FIFA licensed supplier Hawk-Eye was instructed (or commissioned), who is already supplying the English Premier League as you might probably know."

An earlier attempt to approve the technology failed in March 2014 but the proposal was tabled again by German champions Bayern Munich.
