Ten-man Groningen won 2-1 at FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday (30 November).

    Script:

Mid-table Groningen surprised both the roaring home crowd and Eredivisie fans alike, by managing a 2-1 away win at formerly Top 3 side Twente on Sunday.

The away side put themselves in front first with an team effort that started way back into their own half. Defender Eric Botteghin passed to Danny Hoesen, whose short flick reached Tjaronn Chery. Jarchinio Antonia was waiting in the flanks, and he demonstrated a perfect cross for Michael de Leeuw, whose superb header opened the score.

Groningen's second goal came in the most unfortunate way for the shocked home side. Chery's free kick flew straight into goalie Marsman's arms, but it slipped right through his fingers and ended up in the back of the net.

Twente's hopes were up again 9 minutes before the end when Groningen were reduced to 10 men. Danny Hoesen's studs stamped on Cuco Martina's foot, and the forward was shown a red card, much to the anger of the away fans.

Twente's hopes turned into a result 5 minutes later, when after an initially confusing exchange of bounces, the ball reached Luc Castaignos's feet, and he narrowed the gap for Twente.

This was to no avail however, as the game ended 2-1, and Twente move down to 4th.
