Sunday saw a top of the table clash in Switzerland as first placed Basel travelled to face second place Zurich.

Basel were looking to extend their lead at the top, while the home side knew that a win would move them above their rivals.

The match started in tame fashion but came to life in the 35th minute with the first chance of the match - Marco Streller with the header going just over the bar.

Five minutes later, the visitors took the lead when Behrang Safari's cross crept through several players before reaching Shkelzen Gashi in the box.

He took full advantage and drilled his effort home to give Basel the lead going in at half-time.

The second half proved a dull affair until the final minutes - Basel suffering a double blow in the 88th, Marek Suchy giving away a penalty for a hand ball in the area, before being sent off.

Yassine Chikhaoui stepped up and converted the spot-kick to level the scores.

Zurich themselves then went down to 10 men when Ivan Kecojevic received a second yellow three minutes into injury time.

It went from bad to worse for the home side when Gashi got his and Basel's second with a well taken header from a corner.

2-1 the final score, Basel moving five points clear at the top of the league table.
