A brace from Javier Umbides handed Atromitos a 2-0 victory over Skoda Xanthi in the Greek Superleague on Saturday (29 November).

Atromitos climbed to fourth in the Greek Superleague with a solid 2-0 win over Skoda Xanthi in Athens on Saturday.

The home-side nearly went ahead on 14 minutes when Stefano Napoleoni's close range effort bounced off the post and into the arms of the goalkeeper.

But seven minutes later Atromitos finally broke the deadlock to take control of the game.

A superb long-range volley by Javier Umbides put Sa Pinto's side ahead.

And after the break the Argentine winger, was at it again, doubling Atromitos' advantage with this spectacular free-kick.

Umbides was duly mobbed by his team-mates.

Both teams went close with headers late on - Miguel Garcia for the hosts and Dimitrios Goutas narrowly missing for Xanthi.

Atromitos held on for the win and now have 17 points along with fifth-placed Veria.

Xanthi drop down to 11th on 12 points.
