Drug raids on NFL teams

Tuesday, November 18 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Federal drug enforcement agents raided National Football League (NFL) medical staff after various games on Sunday.

    Script:

An unannounced visit from federal drug enforcement agents, it's not normal in the NFL and it's fair to say they weren't welcome.

SOUNDBITE: San Francisco 49ers Team Doctor

    "This is ridiculous"

This was one of a number of raids at the weekend, part of an investigation into claims made by a former player that teams mishandled prescription drugs.

SOUNDBITE: Geoff Schwartz, New York Giants Guard

"Every time I've been prescribed something its been only because of injury and they are very cautious with the way they want you to take it. I never had issues with it. I can see some guys maybe getting addicted to stuff, I really don't know, I can't speak for them. But as far as the places I've been, on the four teams, there haven't been any issues of people abusing stuff. Especially from the medical staff, I mean they write everything down, they know exactly what they are giving us, so it was surprising to see that yesterday."

Indeed there were no arrests made but the investigation continues.
