Latvia tie a must-win for Hiddink's Holland

  • Intro:

After four defeats in his first five games in charge of the national side, under-fire coach Guus Hiddink desparately needs the Netherlands to register victory against Latvia on Sunday.

    Script:

Guus Hiddink has put his job on the line ahead of the Netherlands Euro 2016 qualifier against Latvia.

He says if his Dutch side lose, he'll walk away.

    SOUNDBITE: Guus Hiddink, Netherlands coach
"We have analysed where they are strong, and we have to take our measurement."

The 68-year-old's second reign in charge of the national side hasn't started well.

Despite a star-studded line-up, the Czech Republic, Iceland and Mexico have all claimed victories over the World Cup third place getters.

Hiddink's sole win has been against Kazakhstan.

The Dutch will be boosted by the return of Robin van Persie for the Latvia tie.

But they'll have to do without defender Ron Vlaar.

    SOUNDBITE: Guus Hiddink, Netherlands coach
"Another player will play, another player will play in that position. Of course it is a setback that a player who has a lot of experience internationally, with the national team, is absent. But we have to deal with that and we have the confidence in that the other player who will substitute him do what he is asked to do."

If Latvia can spring a surprise win, they'll move above Holland in the group and to within striking distance of the top two.
