Western Sydney become the first Australian side to win the Asian Champions League after beating Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia over two legs.

Just 90 minutes separated Al Hilal and Western Sydney Wanderers from glory in the second leg of the Asian Champions League final.

The Australians travelled with a 1-0 lead to Saudi Arabia but it was the hosts' Digao who should have scored. The burden of expectation on the Wanderers was exceeding their baggage allowance.

The home captain Yasser Al Qahtani then fired wide of the post in the second half.

Al Hilal's Salman Al Faraj appeared to be brought down by Ante Covic. His team-mates were incensed as the referee only awarded a goal kick.

The Wanderers's Labinot Haliti almost deepened the home side's sense of injustice.

Al Qahtani then drew an excellent save by Covic.

There were ugly scenes at the final whistle as Nassir Al Shamrani spat at Matthew Spiranovic.

But it failed to overshadow Western Sydney Wanderers becoming the first Australian side to win the Asian Champions League.
