  • Intro:

Indonesian second tier sides PSS Sleman and PSIS Semarang are both disqualified by the Indonesian FA after five own goals are scored during their match. The players were reportedly trying to avoid playing Pusamania Borneo FC in the semi-finals, a team thought to be backed by local mafia.

SOUNDBITE (Indonesian): Hinca Panjaitan, Head of Discipline Commission of Indonesia Football Association:

"With a heavy heart for the sake of enforcing our regulations, as well as ensuring the integrity of our competition in the future, both PSS Sleman and PSIS Semarang are disqualified from the Indonesian Soccer League. Therefore both teams will not advance to the next round. The Commission will conduct a full disciplinary investigation into the players, officials and those who were involved in the match."

SOUNDBITE: (Indonesian) Khomaedi, PSIS Semarang player:

"We didn't know that the game would end up like this. The five own goals all happened in the last minutes of the game. It happened spontaneously. Maybe because I was too emotional I put the ball into my own net."
