'Big-game Zamora key' - Redknapp

  • Intro:

Post-game reaction following Queens Park Rangers' 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Harry Redknapp, Queens Park Rangers manager:

     (on Bobby Zamora's good form)

"You know, Bobby's a handful isn't he, you know, and there were lots of good performances tonight. (Suk-Young) Yoon came in at left-back the last couple of games and done fantastic. Richard Dunne and (Steven) Caulker tonight were up against, you know, Benteke's a great, fantastic striker in my opinion and I thought they played him great. (Goalkeeper) Rob Green, the right-back (Mauricio) Isla... and that's the first time I've got 90 minutes out of Sandro. You know, I brought him here as a big player and I've just not been able to get him on the pitch and tonight he made a difference."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul Lambert, Aston Villa manager:

(on whether the players were feeling low because of five straight defeats without scoring a goal)

"I tend not to actually kind of try and get them down on that. You know, I think they'll come out of the traps (for their game) on Sunday. The thing with us is, I know we're going to be alright in that department because when (Christian) Benteke gets up to speed, and (Gabriel) Agbonlahor, and (Andreas) Weimann, (Charles) N'Zogbia and (Darren) Bent. There's guys there with goals in them. I think that that'll happen, but my main concern tonight was, when you've that much of the ball, you've got to score with it but also you've got to defend when you're on top."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Harry Redknapp, Queens Park Rangers manager:

(on the attacking threat gained through playing Bobby Zamora alongside Charlie Austin)

"Yeah we can play more forward, but Charlie's (Austin) not a lone striker, you know, having said that, when I changed it and went to two (players) wide and one up because they started to get a bit of control of the game second half, I felt the game swung back our way then."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul Lambert, Aston Villa manager:

"I thought the two goals we lost were really poor. I think that's the most we've had the ball, possession-wise, but that's why I'm never one really for stats. The main stat is putting the ball in the net, and keeping it out. I thought we defended poorly for the two goals and I think we've got to be more clinical in the last third of the pitch, but the two goals are disappointing because we had most of the ball."
