PSV Eindhoven have cemented their position at the top of the Eredivisie after a convincing victory over Utrecht on Sunday.

PSV went in front after 12 minutes following a perfectly weighted cross allowed Adam Maher to guide the ball past 'keeper Jeroen Verhoeven for his seventh goal of the season.

A goal down, Utrecht soon went a man down.

Mark van der Maarel was sent off in the 22nd minute after accruing two bookings in quick succession.

This gifted the visitors a penalty which Memphis Depay coolly converted to double their advantage.

PSV extended their lead just two minutes later.

Jorrit Hendrix ran straight through the heart of the Utrecht defence and slotted home after Verhoeven denied him on his first attempt.

In the second period, Ruud Boyman kept Utrecht's hopes alive with this magnificent header.

But an unfortunate own goal from Chris Kum put an end to Utrecht's comeback and put PSV ahead 4 goals to 1.

And they completed the rout in injury time through Georginio Wijnaldum.

The victory 5-1 puts them four points clear of defending champions Ajax on top of the Eredivisie table.

    Utrecht remain in twelth.
