It is a sight that will excite all Australian football fans, not only Melbourne City supporters.

David Villa took part in his first training session with Melbourne on Monday ahead of the start of the A-League season.

The Spaniard is on loan from New York City and is one of the most high profile players to play in Australia.

Villa could play up to ten games for Melbourne City before the MLS season gets underway in March.

The 32-year-old's last competitive match was for Spain against Australia during the World Cup so he is a doubt for the weekend but Australians will be hoping the former Barcelona striker will be ready to make his debut for Melbourne against Sydney FC on Saturday.
