Slovan Bratislava were crushed 5-0 away to Young Boys in their opening game in group I of the Europa League, while Napoli beat Sparta Praha 3-1 at home.

And Slovan go into the match with Napoli with history against them.

They've been at the group stages before, but only once.

In 2011-2012, they picked up just one point from six games.

Despite that, they are the only Slovakian side to have ever won a major European trophy though having picked up the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1969.

Napoli have had a difficult start to the season however.

The Italians lost their Champions League play-off to Athletic Bilbao and have won just two of their opening five Serie A matches.

It's been a demanding few weeks for Napoli and coach Rafa Benitez said squad rotation will be key in their busy fixture schedule.

SOUNDBITE (Italian) Rafael Benitez, coach Napoli

"Our idea, my idea has always been to change the players and I do this to win. To go into two matches a week every three and a half days, you have to change the players. They can only play one match or the other to show on the pitch their level and mentality. The squad is available to be used in all the competitions."

Napoli captain Marek Hamsik comes up against the club where he began his professional career when the two sides meet on Thursday.
