Celtic booked their place in the last eight of the Scottish League Cup with a 3-0 win over Hearts on Wednesday night.

Striker John Guidetti gave the hosts the lead in the 24th minute making the most of a defensive error.

Hearts failed to clear Emilio Izaguirre's cross and Guidetti thundered home off the wood work to score his first goal for the club.

Just before the halftime break, Hearts missed a fantastic opportunity to level the scoring.

Jamie Walker, put through on goal by a sloppy pass from Izaguirre, beat Craig Gordon in the Celtic goal, but his effort cannoned back off the crossbar.

Celtic were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute when Guidetti was bundled over inside the box by Alim Ozturk.

Ozturk protested the decision, but there was clear contact and it was clearly a penalty.

Kris Commons stepped up to take the resultant spot kick and made no mistake to make it 2-0.

5 minutes later Hearts defender Adam Eckersley scored an own goal while attempting to chest it back to his keeper Neil Alexander, it beat him however and the final whistle blew at Celtic 3, Hearts 0.
