This is the family friendly image the NFL wants the world to see.

But the off-field issues continue to plague the league's agenda, even across the pond in England as they prepare for the NFL International Series at Wembley.

League commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL have been roundly criticised for the mismanagement of two high-profile players involved in court cases.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Terrell Davis, Former Denver Broncos running back of Super Bowl XXXII MVP (on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell):

"As he's said, he's made some mistakes over the last couple of weeks, months and he's acknowledged that. No-one's perfect. Yes, he's the right man for this job. Always thought he has been.

Terrell Davis, Super Bowl MVP and former Denver Bronco, denies there's a link between the on field violence and what's been happening off it.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Terrell Davis, Former Denver Broncos running back of Super Bowl XXXII MVP (on whether the violence of the NFL is linked to the off field problems):

"No. I have never been called in my home for domestic violence, I played the game for a number of years. I'm married, I have kids so no, I don't buy that. If you showed me some research on that, I might look at that differently but there's no research out there that shows there is a link the violence on the field and what's happening in people's homes."

Despite the controversy, the Oakland Raiders and the Miami Dolphins will contest the ninth NFL International Series on Sunday.

Kevin Boothe of the Raiders is hopeful it'll mark a new chapter for his team and the league.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kevin Boothe, Oakland Raiders guard (on the team's poor start to the season):

"We've definitely not gotten off to the start that we would like but we understand things can change quickly in the NFL. We're progressing."
