SOUNDBITE: (English) Louis van Gaal, Manchester United manager: (on how the new signings will fit into the new squad and whether youth players will be marginalised because of them)

"I've just said that we let go of 14 players and we only bought six players, so more than eight positions are vacant and they are vacant for the youth - and I have already used a lot of youngsters, also in pre-season but also in the season. So, I am always willing to give young players chances, but they have to take the chances."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Louis van Gaal, Manchester United manager: (on whether the sale of Danny Welbeck to Arsenal in favour of Falcao means an end to United's policy of growing youth players)

"And when you ask (about) Danny Welbeck, yeah, Danny Welbeck is here already from (when) he was nine, and he plays, after (a loan spell at) Sunderland, three seasons in Manchester United. But he doesn't have the record of (Robin) van Persie or (Wayne) Rooney, and that's the standard. But that's why we let him go, because, ok, Falcao, but also the youngsters, who can fit in. And that's, I repeat myself, that's the policy. And that's why I'm here, to do that."
