Wayne Rooney led his team out for the first time as permanent captain following the retirement of Steven Gerrard, who decided to end his international career after England's disappointing campaign in Brazil.
Ex-Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard also announced his retirement from international football following his loan move to Manchester City from new club New York City.
Hodgson called up four new uncapped players to his squad: Danny Rose, Calum Chambers, Jack Colback and Fabian Delph,
However, all four missed the training session after featuring for their clubs in the Premier League over the weekend.
Liverpool's trio of Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge were also absent after helping the Reds to a 3-0 victory over Tottenham less than 24 hours ago.
