FC Basel moved back to the top of the Swiss Super League standings following a 3-1 win over BSC Young Boys on Sunday (August 31st).

    Script:

Five-time defending Swiss champions Basel hosted Young Boys on Sunday in the Swiss League.

Basel captain Marco Streller was honoured for making his 300th appearance for the club.

And it was the home side who took an early lead. Derlis Gonzalez in acres of space to score in the fourth minute.

And 16 minutes later, it was the 300 mark man with the second.

The skipper was played through by Shkelzen Gashi & Basel looked to be out of sight.

Yet last season's third place finishers weren't done just yet.

The visitors fought their way back into the game though and pulled a goal back just after the half-hour mark - Raphael Nuzzolo played in Samuel Afum, who then returned the favour with a chance Nuzzolo couldn't waste.

And the turnaround looked to be on the cards as Young Boys had a penalty in the 61st minute.

Tomas Vaclik made up for bringing down Nuzzolo and the score remained 2-1 Basel.

The game was then sealed with 10 minutes remaining. Yoichiro Kakitani came off the bench & Gonzalez found the Japanese international.

3-1 it finished and Basel move back to the top of the league following Zurich's 2-0 win earlier in the day.
