  • Intro:

Usain Bolt ran his first 100m race of 2014 on Leme Beach in Rio de Janeiro and promised to return for the Olympic Games in 2016.

    Script:

Bolt is back. The World's fastest man ran his first 100 metre race of the year in the spectacular surrounds of Leme beach in Rio de Janeiro.

He lined up against Britain's Mark Lewis-Francis, Brazil's Jefferson Liberato Lucindo and Wallace Spearmon of the United States. He beat them all with ease.

The Jamaican ran it in 10.06 seconds and no doubt to the delight to of Olympic organisers he's promised it won't be his last race here...

    SOUNDBITE (English) Usain Bolt:

"It's great, it was wonderful. It was really smooth. I had no problems as always. Last year was perfect, this year is better. The crowd is wonderful, the energy is right and thank you guys, it was wonderful and (thank you) for taking care of me."

"Yes, everybody knows I am coming to 2016 Olympics. Right, guys? Everybody knows I am coming. There's no doubt. I will be here. No worries."

The women's race was won by Brazilian Rosangela Santos. And in the paralympic race USA's Richard Browne crossed first.

There are still doubts about Rio as an Olympic host but the biggest star seems happy enough here.
