Intro:
An early second-half goal from Andreas Weimann gave Aston Villa a 1-0 victory against Stoke on the opening day of the Premier League season on Saturday.

Mark Hughes, Stoke City coach:
"No, we expected more (from ourselves)... all credit to (Aston) Villa, they had a game plan and executed it well. We found it difficult to find the answers in terms of what we were trying to do, so I thought in the first half we were ok, I thought we were the better team in that first half, created more chances, had more opportunities, but we lacked a little bit of care in the final pass. We could have got the first goal, which in the end proved conclusive.
Paul Lambert, Aston Villa coach:
"... Our season (2013-14) probably went into free fall when... when we beat Chelsea last year. I think we were about 12th when we beat Chelsea last year and then we lost Christian (Benteke) to injury... the knee bone never helped us and we just stayed up on that last few games, but this year has been totally different. A different feeling. I thought we were outstanding today, I really did. I thought we deserved to win the game. After that initial 10-minute period, I thought we were excellent. Everybody. I thought the whole team were excellent."
Paul Lambert, Aston Villa coach:
"I'm not going to tell him to sit down. Let somebody else do that. No, listen. Roy has been brilliant since he's been here, a massive help to myself and to the team and I'm pretty sure that anyone who knows him, or saw him playing a game of football, knows that he wants to win."
