In a bizarre twist of fate, Carlos Dunga has been appointed as head coach of the Brazilian national team for a second time.

Luis Felipe Scolari resigned following Brazil's humiliating World Cup finish during which they conceded 10 goals in two games.

A 7-1 defeat to Germany in the semi-final was followed by 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands in the third place playoff.

Dunga coached Brazil at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but was sacked after his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

Despite a positive record of 42 wins, 12 draws and six defeats, Dunga was often heavily criticised during his time in charge for playing defensive minded football.

Now, the Brazilian federation have chose to re-appoint him in the hope that he can guide the nation out of its darkest hour.

Dunga won the World Cup as captain of the national team in 1994 and beat former Corinthians manage Tite to the post.
