Netherlands and Costa Rica fans watch dramatic quarter-final

Sunday, July 06 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Netherlands fans in Amsterdam, Costa Rica fans in San Pedro and both sets of supporters in Salvador watch Holland's penalty shoot-out win.

    Script:

Not many here would have expected to be watching their Costa Rica side in a World Cup quarter-final, let alone take Netherlands all the way to penalties.

That was something to be celebrated, whatever the outcome.

They couldn't reach the last four though, could they? With this man in goal, they had a chance...

But it was Holland's sub goalkeeper who would be the hero. Tim Krul was brought on just before the shootout and saved two penalties, That went down pretty well in Amsterdam.

For those in Salvador, it was all a bit much...

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jules Kokuhis, Netherlands fan

"I feel very broke because it was a very very difficult match for us."

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Rodolfo Trejos, Costa Rica fan

"We are proud of what Costa Rica did, we are just four million and we gave football lessons to everyone, nobody can change this. We are unbeaten. We are great!"

And not many can argue with that, Costa Rica will go home as heroes, Holland just might.
