The France squad left their base in Ribeirao Preto on Saturday following their World Cup quarter-final defeat to Germany.

Around 100 supporters waited outside the team's hotel but the players quickly boarded the coach with few goodbyes to the supporters.

And one local resident said he had enjoyed having the French team in the area -

SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Pedro William, Ribeirao Preto resident:

"I only saw the French players from afar, they waved at us, there was Benzema and Pogba, they just left. When they were here they were friendly, it was cool. I wanted them to go through but unfortunately, they didn't."

A goal from Mat Hummels saw the Germans through to the last four of the tournament at the expense of a French side who had impressed during the group stages.

But despite the quarter-final exit it's not all bad news for France, as the nation will host the European Championships in 2016.
