  • Intro:

Costa Rica trained at the Estadio Manoel Barradas in Salvador on Friday (4th July) ahead of their 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter-final against the Netherlands on Saturday (5th July).

    Script:

Costa Rica will play in their first ever World Cup quarter-final when they take on the Netherlands on Saturday.

They reached the last 16 at the 1990 World Cup, but surpassed that feat last Sunday by beating Greece on penalties to reach the quarter-finals.

Costa Rica also topped Group D, which contained three former World Cup winners - Italy, Uruguay and England.

Their forwards, Joel Campbell and Bryan Ruiz, have been getting many of the headlines, but the 'Ticos'' defence has also been a huge strength - Costa Rica have only conceded twice in four matches.

The performances of Kaylor Navas, who currently plays with Spanish Primera Liga side Levante, has seen the 27-year-old goalkeeper linked to a host of top European clubs.

Costa Rica's opponents the Netherlands topped Group B, beating defending champions Spain, along with Chile and Australia.

They had a late fightback against Mexico in the round of 16, with Klaas Jan Huntelaar's 94th minute penalty sealing a 2-1 win to send them into the quater finals.
