Germany and Algeria fans endure long, tense night

  • Intro:

Fans of both teams watch Germany's 2-1 extra-time win over Algeria in the World Cup Round of 16.

    Script:

It was a wet, tense and very long night for fans watching Germany versus Algeria on a big screen in Berlin.

The Round of 16 match went to extra-time but eventually the favourites got the job done...

Goals from Andre Schurrle and Mesut Ozil secured their place in the quarter-final even though Algeria pulled one back in added time.

The feeling could not be more different in Algiers where fans saw their side go out of the tournament.

Those who went to the game in Brazil though think Algeria can go out with their heads held high.

SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohammed Buttish, Algeria fan:

"We played very well. The Germans did not expect that level from us. We played intensely and we brought pride to Algerian and Arab football."

SOUNDBITE (German) Holger Pompt, Germany fan:

"It was a difficult game for Germany, but in the second half we where better and Lahm had a good game. The defence had two great chances of goals, and after the 90 minutes we were better than the strong Algerian team."

Germany face France next in a mouth-watering quarter-final to be played at the Maracana.
