  • Intro:

Croatia trained at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife on Sunday (22 June) ahead of their must-win World Cup Group A match against Mexico on Monday (23 June).

    Script:

Croatia know what they have to do.

Only a win will see them guaranteed to progress to the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Anything less against Mexico and they will be going home.

The Croatian squad had the chance to train at the Arena Pernambuco on Sunday ahead of the match.

And manager Niko Kovac is likely to name an unchanged for a game that Croatia will probably need to win to qualify.

The only possible change could come with Mateo Kovacic coming in for Brazilian-born Sammir.

Croatia are third in Group A on three points, a point behind Mexico and Brazil.

Mexico only need a draw to ensure their place in the second round of the World Cup.

While Mexico are vying to reach the last 16 for the sixth successive World Cup, Croatia have not advanced to the knockout stage since their debut in 1998, when they reached the semi-finals.

However, the Croatians lead the head-to-head series two - one., and will probably need a third if they are to make the next stages of the World Cup.
