Wilmots up for tactical battle with Capello

Sunday, June 22 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Belgium coach Marc Wilmots says he thinks his side's World Cup Group H match against Russia could be "very tactical".

    Script:

Belgium are just one win away from a place in the last 16 of the World Cup. They face Russia in Group H at the Maracana later. Coach Marc Wilmots will be pitting his wits against Fabio Capello.

SOUNDBITE (French): Marc Wilmots, Belgium coach:

"It could be a very tactical match. (Fabio) Capello has worked with great clubs and played for great clubs. He has a great track record, but he only has eleven players and we will see how he will play them on the pitch and his philosophy. We saw Russia against South Korea and I thought the play was quite static. It is up to us to see how they play on the pitch."

Wilmots will be boosted by news that Vincent Kompany should shake off a groin strain he picked up against Algeria, Romelu Lukaku recovered from an injury of his own to play in that match and will hope to be a little bit sharper to grab his first goal of the tournament.

SOUNDBITE (English): Vincent Kompany, Belgium captain:

    (on Romelu Lukaku)

"He's got a tremendous amount of talent. It's a case of us not really putting too much pressure on a 21-year-old kid to do it all for us at the World Cup. There's all the guys in the team that have more responsibility in this case."
In truth Kompany will be happy for anyone to score in this match as long as Belgium reach the knock-out phase when the so-called golden generation can really be tested against the World's best.
