  • Kagawa wants chance to be Japan's saviour

    Intro:

Shinji Kagawa, who was dropped for Japan's draw with Greece, looks ahead to their must-win Group C match against Colombia on Tuesday.

    Script:

After one defeat and one draw Japan are on the brink of World Cup elimination. They must beat Colombia in their final group match and hope that Ivory Coast don't beat Greece. The odds are against them.

SOUNDBITE (Japanese): Shinji Kagawa, Japan midfielder:
(on Japan's mindset heading into their final group match against Colombia)

"We need to turn things around mentally. We didn't get a result in the first two games and everyone is concerned about it. But as long as there is a chance, we aren't going to give up."
Shinji Kagawa was dropped for the 0-0 draw with Greece but the Manchester United midfielder wants to win back his managers trust on Tuesday.

SOUNDBITE (Japanese): Shinji Kagawa, Japan midfielder:
(on not starting the Greece match)

"That is something the coach decides and has nothing to do with being Japan's "number ten". I respect the coach. I felt that in the first match I wasn't performing. In both matches I haven't been able to get good results, but I'm going to try and change that in the next match."
They should really want the points more than Colombia, who have already qualified. But tens of thousands of Colombian fans will be there to make things even harder for Japan in Cuiaba.
