  • Intro:

England will be eliminated from the World Cup if Italy fail to beat Costa Rica in Recife today. Italy beat England 1-0 in their first match and Costa Rica stunned Uruguay with a 3-1 victory.

    Script:

The winners from the opening round of matches in Group D face each other in Recife today. Italy beat England 1-0 in their first match, Costa Rica beat Uruguay 3-1and Cesare Prandelli knows they can't underestimate the central american side.

SOUNDBITE: ( Italian) Cesare Prandelli, Italy's national team coach:

"Our main issues regarding the opposite team probably knows us very well, has studied closely our players performance and that has 3 players as forwards of great quality."

Their chances of stopping those forwards could be hampered by injury, first choice centre back Andrea Barzagli could miss out through tendonitis and there is still a question mark over Gianluigi Buffon's fitness.

At the other end Mario Balotelli is hoping to add to his tally but he doesn't really care who scores as long as it's an Italian.

SOUNDBITE: (Italian) Mario Balotelli, Italy's national team player:

" I hope this is Italy's World Cup and not Marios'. I play with Italy, I hope I can give great support to this team but it doesn't really interest me to play the role of the great star because it is the entire team that wins and it is the whole team that is in the World Cup."
Costa Rica are the surprise leaders in this group, despite most thinking they would finish bottom.

SOUNDBITE (Spanish): Jorge Luis Pinto, coach of the Costa Rica national team

"I feel that the team has increased confidence in itself. The opener against Uruguay was critical, luckily we did fine, we are all happy about that day and we hope to ratify many of the things we did against Uruguay."
England will be watching closely and cheering for Italy as anything other than a win for them means Roy Hodgson's side are out.
