Stage six of the Tour de Suisse took riders from Buren a Aare to Delemont on Thursday.

The 183.5km rolling route would end with two categorised climbs and then a descent down to a flat finish.

Pre-stage favourite Peter Sagan of Cannondale showed his fine form by attacking just short of the summit of the second climb, the category-three Le Rond-Pre.

A clutch of riders bridged across to him on the flat road heading into Delemont as Sagan was overtaken.

Team Sky chased hard to bring the race back together and set up a sprint finish.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step team-mates Tony Martin and Matteo Trentin hit the front and split the peloton with a fierce increase in pace inside the last km.

Trentin took full advantage of Martin's lead out and sprinted to victory in a time of 4 hours 43 minutes and 19 seconds.

Martin crossed the line just behind the leaders to consolidate his six-second lead over Tom Dumoulin of Giant-Shimano in the general classification.
