Spain and Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Javi Martínez, 25, said La Roja are aiming to become the first country to defend their World Cup trophy in 52 years -- Brazil were the last nation to do so in 1962. European champions Spain begin the defence of their world crown with a match against Holland in Group B on Friday (KO 20:00 BST), before taking on Chile and Australia.

    SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Javi Martínez, Spain:

"When you have won the World Cup, all your rivals have an extra motivation to beat the reigning champions. It was the same case this season with Bayern Munich -- everybody wanted to win against us. Spain want to become the first country to defend their World Cup title since Brazil retained the trophy in 1962. That is our extra motivation."
