Danny Welbeck missed England's training session on Wednesday and is a major doubt for the opening match of their World Cup campaign against Italy on Saturday. The Manchester United striker was hurt during Tuesday's session and limped out midway through a 90 minute exercise.

But there was more positive news for Roy Hodgson on the fitness of Steven Gerrard, he had a minor injury scare earlier in the week but played a full part here.

The only other doubt is Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, he did not take part and will not be ready to face the Italians in Manaus.

The squad will get a flight from Rio to the Amazon rainforest city on Thursday ahead of the Group D opener.
