Switzerland's national football team arrived early on Saturday in Sao Paulo, ahead of their 10th World Cup campaign.

Switzerland arrived in Sao Paulo in the early hours of Saturday morning ahead of their 10th World Cup campaign.

After beating eventual champions Spain in the first match at the 2010 World Cup and then being knocked out in the first round, Switzerland have higher goals this time in Brazil.

Out of the nine times they have played football's showpiece tournament, the Swiss have never gone beyond the quarter-finals.

Switzerland had an impressive performance in the qualifiers for Brazil 2014 though, finishing unbeaten and picking up 24 out of a possible 30 points.

Two people can claim much of the credit: skilful playmaker Xherdan Shaquiri, from Bayern Munich, and Ottmar Hitzfeld, the famous German coach who took control in the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup.

Switzerland are in Group E, alongside France, Ecuador and Honduras.

They face Ecuador in Brasilia in their first match on the 15th of June.
