Intro:
The Arena da Baixada in Curitiba is still not ready, just days until the World Cup starts. The head organiser in the city blames a combination of factors, including FIFA.
Script:
It's not far off but it's clear to see that the Arena da Baixada in Curitba is still not ready.
The organisers here have had repeated warnings from FIFA that they must be ready or their matches will be moved to another venue.
SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Reginaldo Cordeiro, head of FIFA World Cup organization of Curitiba:
"It is obvious that the delay in the works isn't just because of our own delays. We are behind schedule due to a combination of different criteria from the local and national authorities and also FIFA."
The deadline is June the 16th, when the stadium hosts Nigeria and Iran and the following week world champions spain arrive. Some parts look weeks away from completion. Painting the lines on the pitch is the least of their worries.
It's not great for something that has cost so much and in the city's largest Favela many see it as a waste of money.
SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Teresinha (not given surname):
"We poor people are the ones who suffer the most. Because the authorities spend money on useless things. All this doesn't mean anything for us."
But there are some who are more positive...
SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Paulo Gomes, road worker:
"I believe we will be ready. The works are almost finished. And I think Brazil will be world champions. We have a well structured team full of highly regarded football stars."
Over the next few weeks we will find out who is right, the questions hanging over Brazil's moment in the spotlight will be answered.
