    The Diamond League returned to Europe on Thursday, for the Golden Gala meeting in Rome.

    And In the absence of world and Olympic champion Usain Bolt, American sprinter Justin Gatlin powered to a 9.91 second win in the men's 100m.

    In the women's event, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was hoping to bounce back from a disappointing last-place 200m finish, at the last Diamond League event.

    But the two-time Olympic gold medallist, who has been suffering from a leg injury, could only manage a seventh as Tori Bowie ran a personal best to take the win.

    Elsewhere legendary shot putter Valerie Adams kept up her four-year unbeaten streak in 48 consecutive competitions with a winning mark of 20.01m.

    Meanwhile World champion Brianna Rollins, making her Diamond League debut, led an illustrious field in the women's 100m hurdles, with a winning time of 12.53 seconds.
