Godoy Cruz move second in Argentina

  • Intro:

Godoy Cruz made it three wins in a row as they claimed a 1-0 victory over Estudiantes in their Argentinean Primera Division meeting on Sunday (27th April).

    Script:

Estudiantes hosted Godoy Cruz in a battle between two of the title contenders in the Torneo Final of the Argentinean Primera Division.

It could of been a perfect start for the home team but the less said about Jara's effort the better.

On 11 minutes Juan Sebastian Veron came close from a free kick, but the veteran put his effort wide.

After the interval Estudiantes striker Guido Carrillo somehow missed his follow up after Godoy Cruz goalkeeper Jorge Carranza's parried save was deflected onto the woodwork.

Estudiantes would be left to further rue that missed opportunity shortly after as Facundo Castillon broke through and rounded Jeronimo Rulli to make it 1-0 to the away team.

Castillon's goal proved decisive, and meant the visitors moved up into second place to keep pressure on leaders Gimnasia La Plata who won their sixth straight game earlier in the day.
