  • Intro:

Defending champions Central Coast Mariners beat Adelaide United 1-0 to reach the semi-finals of the A-League play-offs.

    Script:

Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United faced each other for a spot in the semi-finals of the Australian A-League play-offs.

Before the match fans and players from both sides paid tribute to 20-year-old Australia and West Ham striker Dylan Tombides who lost his battle with cancer on Friday.

The first chance of the game came for Adelaide after just 6 minutes when Osama Malik's header was kept out by Liam Reddy.

Neither side created much as the fear of failure and elimination seemed to take hold, that was until the 67th minute when Bernie Ibini-Isei did this..

The Nigeria-born striker with his sixth goal of the season to put the Mariners one up. It really was a sweet strike from the 21-year-old on loan from Shanghai Dongya in his second spell in Gosford.

The score stayed the same for the advertised three minutes additional time but they had to hang on for five extra minutes in the end and with Adelaide's keeper sent up for a corner, they did hold on though and their title defence stays very much alive.
