    River Plate climb to second in the Argentine Primera Division as they beat Altetico Rafaela 2-0 in Buenos Aires on Sunday (13th April).

    Script:

    River Plate went into their fixture against Atletico Rafaela aware that a victory would move them up into second in the Argentine Primera Division.

    The first half proved to be a dull affair, the best chance coming for the visitors as they hit the post on the half hour mark.

    The home side started brightly in the second half however and took the lead in the 55th minute.

    A scrappy goal, Atletico's defence failed to deal with a corner, and Carlos Carbonero turned it in a the far post to make it 1-0.

    The goal sparked some life into the game, although the deciding moment came when Esteban Conde was sent off for a last man challenge.

    Fernando Cavenaghi stepped up to take the resulting penalty, but it came crashing back off the underside of the crossbar.

    Nevertheless, with the man advantage, River eventually got the second in the 86th minute.

    Teofilo Gutierrez with a powerful finish following a slip from Atletico's centreback.

    The 2-0 win means River are now second, a point behind Estudiantes.
