Ajax held 1-1 at home by Cambuur Leeuwarden in Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday (9th March).

    Script:

Ajax hosted Cambuur at the Amsterdam Arena looking to re-establish their eight point lead at the top of the Eredivisie table.

The Dutch Champions got off to the perfect start - Ricardo Kishna did well to pressure the Cambuur defence.

His cross met the unmarked Siem de Jong in the box, and the Ajax captain fired his side into the lead after just a minute.

De Jong nearly added a second after some more poor defending by Cambuur but Leonard Nienhuis stopped the striker's low effort.

The visitors should have equalised before the break.

But with the entire goal to aim at, Mohamed El Makrini somehow managed to miss the target from just six yards out.

Corners posed problems for Ajax all afternoon, and Cambuur took full advantage in the second half.

Martijn Barto was left completely unmarked and the striker made no mistake - his header making it 1-1.

Just three minutes later and Ajax produced a fantastic first time passing move to put Lasse Schone through on goal.

But Nienhuis denied the winger with a great save.

The draw means Vitesse cut Ajax's lead at the top of the table to six points with matches remaining.
