German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich achieved a record 16th straight Bundesliga win after thumping fifth-placed Wolfsburg 6-1 at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday. The Bavarians have a 23 point cushion at the top of the table.
Script:
Bayern Munich's unbeaten Bundesliga record this season was put in jeopardy on Saturday when Wolfsburg centre-back Naldo steered in former Chelsea-man Kevin De Bruyne's cross.
Bayern have scored an average of three goals a game in all competitions this season but Xherdan Shaqiri's equaliser is not one you'd want to see again.
In the second half, Thiago Alcantara's pass split Wolfsburg's centre-backs like bowling pins and fellow central midfielder Thomas Muller rounded 'keeper Diego Benaglio to finish in style.
This time it was right-back Rafinha who provided the assist and Mario Mandzukic made it 3-0 to the champions.
Arjen Robben then showed supreme composure to set-up Franck Ribery to score in his first game back for The Bavarians after buttock surgery last month.
Robben was again instrumental when he beat centre-back Robin Knoche and crossed for Muller, who took full advantage of the space to net for the 12th time in the league this season.
Muller's pass with the outside of his right boot enabled Mandžukic to fittingly complete the 6-1 rout; his 16th league goal this season securing a record 16th straight Bundesliga win.
