It may have been just a friendly but this meeting between European heavyweights France and The Netherlands was a chance for both sides to show how their World Cup preparations are going.

And it was France who started well, and they would have taken the lead after 18 minutes but Ron Vlaar was quick to block Karim Benzema's close-range header.

At the other end, Wesley Sneijder was giving the team plenty of practice at corner defending. One of his efforts landed at the feet of Robin van Persie, but both his shot and Vlaar's rebound didn't have quite the accuracy they needed.

And The Netherlands were made to pay for those misses when when just two minutes later Benzema put France ahead. It was a clinical finish from the Real Madrid striker, something that pleased his coach Didier Deschamps.

And France doubled their lead five minutes before the break.
Mathieu Valbuena found Matuidi in the penalty box St Germain midfielder scored with a stunning volley.

And that proved to be the goal that secured the win for France and sent their supporters home pleased.
