Russia took on Armenia in an international friendly in Krasnodar on Wednesday.

Fabio Capello's Russia were hoping to build on an impressive World Cup qualifying campaign, where they edged out Portugal for an automatic place in Brazil.

The home sides form continued as Dynamo Moscow striker Aleksandr Kokorin opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a deft backheel flick following Aleksandr Samedov's cross.

Just before half time, Russia were awarded a penalty after Samedov was brought down by Armenia's Artak Edigaryan.

Dmitriy Kombarov stepped up to take it and beat Roman Berezovsky to make it 2-0 at the break.

Capello had seen enough from his starting eleven and made four substitutions at the start of the second half.

Russia were soon on the attack again and Berezovsky had to be at his acrobatic best to deny Kombarov a second goal.

Armenia had a chance to pull one back with half an hour remaining.

Robert Arzumanyan met the corner, but Russian defender Vasili Berezutsky did enough to divert the ball past the post.

The game finished 2-0 and Capello would have been pleased by Russia's first half performance.

The Italian's side will next take on Norway in Oslo on the 30th of May.
