Carroll, Johnson and Barry can still make Brazil - Hodgson

  • Intro:

England manager Roy Hodgson says Andy Carroll, Adam Johnson and Gareth Barry should not give up hope of going to the World Cup, despite being left out his squad for the friendly against Denmark.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roy Hodgson, England manager (on his squad):
"This is the squad I've chosen for now. Andy Caroll has hardly played but we're going to be keeping an eye on him. (Adam) Johnson of course we know, with the competition we have at the moment I decided not to include him in the squad. Gareth Barry is a player of course who has not been with us in the two years but by the same token I know he's playing well at the moment, I know him and I wouldn't be adverse to calling on him if I thought there was a place for him in the team so I really hope people aren't going to see this squad as 'well, there's 30, some will drop out and the rest will remain and go to Brazil' - I'm not prepared to give that guarantee and if anyone thinks that's going to happen, they could find themselves disillusioned."
