Reigning K-League champions, Pohang Steelers took on Cerezo Osaka of Japan in the opening match of Group E in the 2014 Asian Champions League on Tuesday.

The Steelers have failed to make it past the group stages in the last two years and were determined to make a positive start, especially on home turf.

But it was the visitors who took the lead in the eleventh minute.

A long ball found Yoichuri Kakitani, he entered the area and squeezed the ball between two defenders and found the back of the net.

The Steelers had a great chance to equalise soon after the half hour mark. Cho Chan Ho's cross found an unmarked Go Moo Yul, but his headed effort was off target.

The Spaniard was cheered by watching his side take the lead in the 63rd minute - new signing Ho Dae Sung reacting quickest to some very poor defending.

The host side pulled themselves level with 12 minutes remaining.

Beijing failed to fully clear a corner and the second cross was put in in emphatic style by defender Kazuhiko Chiba, whose scissor kick earned Hiroshima a point.

Both sides continued to press for the win, but the match ended one a piece.
