PSV Eindhoven put in one of their best performances of the season to beat second-placed FC Twente 3-2 in the Dutch Eredivisie on Saturday (8 February).
Script:
FC Twente travelled to the Philip Stadion knowing that a victory over PSV Eindhoven would see them close the gap with leaders Ajax to just a point.
But the home side were firing on all cylinders early on, Santiago Arias with a terrific solo run and excellent finish to give PSV the lead.
Jurgen Locadia then doubled the lead in the 22nd minute as he rose highest in the box and buried his header in the bottom corner - leaving goalkeeper Nick Marsman with no chance.
The home side looked to be in complete control and pushing for a third.
But five minutes before half-timeTwente managed to pull a goal back against the run of play.
Quincy Promes found some space in the box and finished well for his tenth goal of the season.
PSV wasted no time restoring their two goal advantage in the second half.
Jetro Willems doing well to cut inside on his right foot and fire a low curling shot past the out-stretched hand Marsman to make it 3-1.
Twente managed to find a way back into the game following some comical defending in the PSV box.
The ball eventually falling to Michel Jansen who finished powerfully.
The visitors pushed forward in search of an equaliser but to no avail as it ended 3-2.
Twente remain second while Philip Cocu's PSV move up to fifth in the Eredivisie.
